Suit With Mistake Shirt & Pioneer Tie

These garments - Mistake shirt, Pioneer tie, Split jacket and Enz trousers - are from Doris de Pont’s winter 2007 collection, Sampler. It was unveiled at New Zealand Fashion Week in September 2007. Taking inspiration from the 'cut out' art of celebrated contemporary New Zealand artist Richard Killeen, Doris designed winter prints that included “little bits of everything”. One of his prints, 'Great Hall of Jar', had caught Doris’ eye at an exhibition at the Ivan Anthony gallery in Auckland. "Some of his work with all the different illustrations looks like it is already a fabric pattern, so I wanted to see how it would work on fabric – the results are fantastic," Doris says. The shirt and tie is print is a tile pattern, reminiscent of the suits famous New Zealand band Split Enz donned in their early days. Doris also included a mix of iconography - including fighter planes, a butterfly in a jar, fish, bugs, foliage and a spiral with fork.
