Pink embroidered two-piece swimsuit

The demand for prestigious international brands was fulfilled by local companies making these swimsuits under licence. Lane Walker Rudkin bought the licence for glamour label Mabs of Hollywood in 1947. It also acquired Catalina, the label associated with the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, and Speedo.

Designer: Unknown
Garment type: Two-piece swimsuit
Features: This suit is constructed of two layer - an inner knitted fabric and an outer embroidered cotton. The top layer is larger than the knit layer and is eased and stitched onto the knit layer in a decorative effect. This technique cleverly gives the cotton a bit of stretch and helps avoids the 'saggy' effect of unsupported wet knit fabric.
