Hand-printed smock dress

The Merchants of Narnia business was started by Rupert Kurghan and Dave White in the early 1970s. They started making suede bags and tie-dye t-shirts which they sold to their friends. The venture was so successful that they broadened their range to include a wider range of clothing, fabric, incense and more. Eventually there were three Merchants of Narnia retail stores - one in Wellington’s Willis Street and two stores in His Majesty’s Arcade in Auckland.
