Chemise suit

This women's suit was made by W Selby & Co, a wholesale manufacturer located at 83-85 Buchan Street in Christchurch. Called 'Susie', the suit jacket has a bloused back worn with a pencil skirt. Selby wholesaled to department stores and dress stores across the country. The retailers embraced the chemise, and the trend swept the country, reaching beyond the main cities to smaller centres such as Nelson, New Plymouth, Palmerston North and Whangarei. It catered to all tastes and budgets.
