Thai silk & tulle crinoline

Brian Molyneux dreamed this dress in black and white and, when he awoke next morning, he sketched it. In 1996, when invited to design a collection based on a citrus theme for the finale of the Wella Fashion Collections, he re-imagined it in orange and black. 50 metres of tulle, each frill edged in black satin ribbon, were used for the skirt which is built on a hooped crinoline base. Following the Wella show, the gown was displayed in the Posh Frocks Exhibition at the Howick  Uxbridge Gallery and later in a Fashion in Art Exhibition at the Aigantighe Art Gallery in Timaru.
