Day dress with a shoestring belt

Beverly Davidson usually sewed and knitted the clothes for her large family, but on this occasion treated herself to a shop-bought garment - this day dress by El Jay. "This dress was on display at The DIC in Lower Hutt. I looked at the dress and I’ll swear it said, 'Please try me on'. The moment the dress slipped over my head it was sold. I turned before the mirror and I was in love!" Read more about Gus Fisher and the El Jay label in the New Zealand Fashion Museum publication Looking Terrific: The story of El Jay.
