Two-piece with decorative braid fastening

As the holder of the NZ licence to make exclusive line for line reproductions of Christian Dior originals, Gus Fisher and his company, El Jay, received photographs, original paper patterns, fabrics and make instructions from Paris. He travelled to Paris to see the shows at the salon on Rue Montaigne and made his selection for production here.

This piece would indicate that he sometimes also brought home an original garment as a manufacturing sample. This garment with its numbered Patron Original label belongs to one of Gus’s models, Dale Himmel (nee Hackett), who purchased some pieces from El Jay for her travelling wardrobe when she set off on a world trip.
