Slub linen gown with tie at back

Alison Milne (nee Annabell) made this ball gown for her Clothing 2 assignment at the University of Otago's School of Home Science. To get a wide enough fabric for her design she had to use curtain fabric, which was 45 inches wide (115 cm). The standard width for dress fabrics was 36 inches (90 cm). She wore the ball gown to her capping ball in 1965.

Alison wore the shoes in 1966 with her 'going away' outfit. She says she would have worn something similar with this ball gown.
