Photoprint dress with double cap sleeve

Margaret Dulcie Hill began sewing for her family when she was about 10 years old. When she was about 14 years old she took an outfit she had made for her cousin to the men's tailor, J & J Arthurs. They gave her a job. In 1958 Margaret bought Ross Drapery, which was located at 203 North Road, Dunedin. She specialised in wedding gowns, but Margaret still found time to sew her family's clothes, including her husband's suits, sports jackets and work shirts. In the 1960s she also taught tailoring classes at Night Tech, which later became Otago Polytechnic.
