NAC uniform with beret

It has been suggested this uniform was designed to reflect the colours of the New Zealand flag and Union Jack and coincided with the visit of the Queen to New Zealand in 1977 to start her Silver Jubilee tour. It was also the first time that women wore trousers as part of the uniform. Fabrics were a fine wool knit, polyester and cotton. The beret hat featured a striking star shaped motif on the top. A small gold godwit badge featured centre front on the hats. The dress of the uniform continued to be worn by all NAC and Air New Zealand hostesses after the merger. The rank badges were identical to those worn with the 'lollipop' uniform and worn at the base of the neckline of the overtop and navy dress. Scarves also featured the godwit which was changed to a koru after merger in 1978. Although the designer of this uniform is unknown they were made in New Zealand by Holeproof.
