Madame Butterfly draped jacket & obi sash

The dress was inspired by Donna Tulloch’s entry in the 1988 Benson & Hedges Fashion Design Awards and the music of Malcolm McLaren’s ‘Death of Butterfly’.
This piece saw the beginning of a love for architectural draping which is still the trade mark of Mild Red today. Read more about the history of home sewing in the New Zealand Fashion Museum publication Home Sewn.
