Gown with embroidered sleeves & bodice

Jennie Goodwin became New Zealand's first female television newsreader when she started at the brand new channel, TV2, in June 1975. She was still working in the media in 1989 when she was invited to the opening of the Pan Pacific Hotel in Auckland. It was a black tie event so she visited Patrick Steel in his showroom on Parnell Road. "He was an absolute whiz," she recalls. "He came up with a couple of freehand sketches on the spot and showed me suitable fabric." The gown took Patrick about a week to make.
