Blazer stripe bri-nylon swimsuit

In 1958 the British Nylon Spinners trademarked their brand of nylon as Bri-Nylon and this became the default option for swimwear in New Zealand for the next two decades. With its quick-drying properties, its durability and colour fastness, and variety of textures, patterns and rich colours, Bri-Nylon surpassed anything that had come before. This swimsuit, made of bri-nylon, was made under licence in New Zealand by the Auckland manufacturer Silknit. A matching skirt was available to buy; a reflection of the continued concern with modesty that lasted well into the 1960s.
