At the Beach

100 years of summer fashion in New Zealand

We're delighted to tell you that our latest exhibition opens next week on Saturday 17th October at the New Zealand Maritime Museum. It's one of our biggest and most ambitious exhibitions to date and will be on until 8th February 2016.

At the Beach explore the influence of the coast on our identity as New Zealanders and how what we did and what we wore reflects our changing society and leisure pursuits. We have some special events planned for the exhibition too and we would love you to share the experience of At the Beach with us over the summer.

In the meantime you can also check out 'At the Beach' online here to get a taste for what the exhibition will be like. We look forward to seeing you at the New Zealand Maritime Museum.

Call for Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to join us At the Beach. This exhibition is a little different for us as we will be in the New Zealand Maritime Museum which means that they take care of opening and closing as well as sales. Instead we would like you to be part of the excitement and help the visitors enjoy the experience of the show. Our roster will coincide with the days and times that the cruise ships are in town and other busy times at the Maritime Museum over the summer between Labour Weekend and Waitangi Weekend. If you would like to be an official New Zealand Fashion Museum host we would love to hear from you.

We will be holding two sessions at the Maritime Museum on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th October at 10am where we will take you on an informative tour of the exhibition and the staff there will give you tips and pointers on guiding at their venue. Those of you who have hosted before will know what a fun and rewarding job it is engaging with an interested audience. Please let us know what training you would like to come to and provide us with an email address and mobile phone number to hello@nzfashionmuseum.org.nz.
